From high altitudes in Argentina and old logs, the grapes come to Mendel Sémillon. The vineyard locations Altamira, La Consulta and San Carlos were planted in 1942 and are located a full 1,100 meters above sea level, which means large differences in temperature between day and night. The cool nights contribute to good acidity in the grapes and freshness in the wine.
The harvest took place in the first week of March and upon arrival at the winery the grapes were cooled down and gently pressed with stems. The wine was then mostly fermented in stainless steel tanks, but 15 percent was fermented and also stored in French barrels for six months. The wine was bottled in September 2022. In the bottle is Roberto De La Mota's tasty, contemporary interpretation of an ancient grape.
The wine has a fresh, clean and medium intensity aroma of citrus and herbs, white flowers, pineapple and a hint of honey. The taste has hints of citrus, tropical fruit and a hint of caramel. A crisp acidity adds an extra dimension to this dry, clean wine that is flavorful with a long finish. Mendel Sémillon goes well with seafood and other dishes based on the fruits of the sea, preferably from the grill. Serve the wine at 12 degrees.
