Vintners have universally characterized the 2012 growing season and its abundant, high-quality harvest as “classic”, “idyllic” and “textbook.” After the challenges of 2010 and 2011, 2012 was blessed with moderate temperatures and rainfall. The long, slow growing season ending with a brief heat spell and light rainfall in September and October brought fruit-laden vines to optimal ripeness, with sugar and acid in harmonious balance. The Reserve Cabernet fruit was sourced from the Oak Knoll appellation (59%) and our two estate vineyards in the Rutherford appellation, Franklin (24%) and Abela (17%). Perfect climatic conditions and the region’s deep, loamy, well-drained soils produced dark, intensely flavored Cabernet berries, the foundation for an exquisite age-worthy wine that will evolve in character and quality for years to come. The wine is a beautiful complement to grilled meat entrees, aged cheeses and, a winery favorite, dark chocolate desserts.
