The godello grape in this white wine comes from vines that are between 18 and 25 years old and grow at high altitudes along the Támaga River in Monterrei, Galicia. The fruit is selected from the best locations in the Fraga do Lecer vineyards and samples the breadth of soils found in the Monterrei district – in this case, different granite soils and slates. The cultivation is managed according to sustainable methods without any chemical control and the harvest is kept extra low, around half of what is allowed, which provides material for wines with fine concentration. And of course there have been gold medals, by Decanter, German Mundus Vini and Spanish Guía Wine Up.
The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small baskets, the harvest is transported directly to the winery where it is kept really cool. Then there is a careful cleaning and sorting, de-stemming and a shorter cold maceration before it is time for gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation. The wine is then allowed to rest on the fine lees for six months and then an extra period in a steel tank to settle properly before bottling. Of the current vintage, the bottling involved 20,000 bottles with the label "Fraga do Corvo Godello Sobre Lías, Monterrei".
