Produced for the US market, this is the first vintage of the 2018 Juan Gil Red Blend. It is 45% Monastrell, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah from a year more in line with 2016, more continental and with more rain, despite which, the wine is still 15% alcohol. The different grapes fermented and matured separately for 12 months. It's ripe and has notes of chocolate and spices, keeping some herbal undertones and with the tasty and pungent notes from the Cabernet.
Winemaker Notes
Deep purple in color, the wine shows luscious aromas of ripe black and red fruit combined with exotic spices. Juan Gil Red Blend is rich and voluptuous on the palate with incredible balance, finesse and power.
Juan Gil Red Blend is made from the finest estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Monastrell (aka Mourvedre), and Syrah. The extremely old vineyards that sit 2,100 feet above sea level are head-pruned, dry-farmed, and require no herbicides or pesticides. The bunches are hand-picked, fermented, and then aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.
