Created by James Borrough in the 1800s. Beefeater is the only international premium distilled and produced in the centre of London. Even the name Beefeater has its roots in London, inspired by the yeoman warders – also know as Beefeaters – who stand watch at the Tower of London.
The original recipe devised by James Burroughs has stood the test of time very well and Beefeater has become the most awarded gin for the las 10 years.
Unlike many of our competitors Beefeater is still bottled at 40% abv ensuring maximum flavour and enjoyment in every bottle.
Beefeater Gin is handcrafted by our team at the Kennington Distillery, under the watchful eye of Master Distiller, Desmond Payne. It is still produced using the recipe that was created by our founder, James Burrough.
The Distillation
After the 24 hour steeping process, the stills are gently heated. The botanical infused spirit changes form – from liquid to vapour and then back into liquid once again. As this seven hour process occurs, different botanicals release their flavours at different times.
The Cut
As distillation occurs our Master Distiller has to decide when to make the final cut. We only collect the middle cut, known as the heart, to go into beefeater with the tops and tales being discarded.
The Bottling
The final stage of production is to reduce the strength of Beefeater Gin to bottling strength. We do this by adding pure, softened water to the spirit, taking it down to a minimum of 40 per cent ABV.
